Oral Lichen Planus

Oral Lichen Planus is a systemic inflammatory condition affecting the skin and / or oral mucosa. It can range from mild plaques to severe, ulcerative forms. Lichen planus is a relatively common problem, affecting approximately 1 out of every 100 people.

In rare instances, oral lichen planus can represent a pre-cancer condition, and regular surveillance by an experienced clinician is important in monitoring and prevention.

Oral lichen planus can be confused with other conditions and is best evaluated by an expert in oral dermatology / oral medicine. Dr. Sirois is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine and recognized expert in the diagnosis and treatment of oral dermatology / mucosal problems.
